memeifying my workplace to cope with the unbearable weight of being employed
they made the TV show Silicon Valley into a real thing
In honor of recently leaving my job at LinkedIn, hereβs my collection of corporate βmemesβ I amassed in my four years of bureaucratic servitude.
This was inspired by my friend/former co-worker Serenaβs work memes folder. On her last day of employment, she gathered us to screen share her favorites, before theyβd get wiped out by corporate after her departure.
I instead emailed mine to my personal computer.
(IF ANYONE FROM CORPORATE IS READING THIS, THERE IS NO SENSITIVE INFORMATION OR COMPANY SECRETS SO GO AWAY.)
Friendly Feedback!

We are literally a tech company.

Mackenzie Catherine Sharp
The first time I met Mackenzie, we were at a new grads lunch, and she was explaining how she took meetings from her hot tub and wanted to get a mechanical bull for her apartment. I decided right then we would be friends. We went on to hang out basically every day, lived together for a year (we now live across the street), and even started our Substacks together, so Iβd say my plan was a success. People are always surprised to hear that we met at work, such a banal phenomenon, due to the nature of our shenanigans.
The Workplace Team
When corporate built a new workplace cafe, they let us vote on the name. One option was βThe Link.β This clearly has connotations of βsneaky linkβ but apparently no one else thought that, because it won.
At the same time, we had an acquaintance/co-worker who was kinda notorious for being ran-through among the new grads friend group, letβs call him Sebastian. So Mackenzie and I would joke that they were giving Sebastian an office up at The (Sneaky) Link for all his βappointments.β
Also, they let the baristas control the aux in the cafe, so we would sometimes hear: βIβve been a nasty girl. Nasty. Iβve been a nasty girl. Nasty.β playing over our corporate lunch. Or, βDirty babe, you see these shackles baby Iβm your slave, uh huh. Iβll let you whip me if I misbehave, uh huh.β Etc.
I remember one particular day when I was feeling really down, and trying to have my sad dramatic moment gazing out the window, and Souja Boy was blasting over the speakers. And you really canβt be sad when βwatch me crank that souja boy and supersoak that hoeβ is blaring through your companyβs sound system.
And the final meme:
And with that, Iβm LinkedOut.

Congratulations on founding LinkedIn btw, thatβs super cool that you did that
God bless you on your future endeavors. If you crate a company that makes people do crazy dumb fun stuff Iβm sure it will be a huge success and maybe youβll get a twelve part show like squid game. If that was the plan sorry for making it public. Lol. Iβm an old dude who is retired and freeing oneself from the shackles of the overlords is one of the greatest feelings I believe one can have. When I went to work for myself is when my work and life had meaning again. No profound deal just went from union carpentry to self employed but was doing my way instead of following the way someone else wanted it done and sure there are other ways to get to the same result being able to do things MY way was enough to make me happy. Bought properties. Flipped houses. Own several. Retired at 50. Life is great. Got long winded there. Sorry. Youβre very creative and I canβt wait to see what you do next. If that is something we will see. I hope it gets written on Substack. Good luck!
